The HTC One M8 and One M9 smartphones may skip the Android Lollipop 5.1.1 update and directly receive the latest Operating System Android 6.0 Marshmallow instead. The release is speculated to happen in either September or October.
Jeff Gordon, the Senior Global Online Communications Manager at HTC has confirmed that the handset models, HTC One M8, One M9, and One M9+ will be added on the Android 6.0 list, reports Neuro gadget.
It is also said that the HTC One M8 (2014 version) has been previously doubted whether it will receive or not the Android M update. However, the HTC US Chief, Mo Versi has already confirmed that One M8 will receive that update as well.
According to Gospel Herald the HTC One M8 will even have the latest Android 6.0 marshmallow update shortly after Android M gets released this fall. This information was again confirmed by Mo Versi, who has become the product spokesperson for HTC in terms of Android updates and their flagship smartphones stuff. As the HTC One M8 will get its part of Android 6.0, then it shouldn't be long before the latest handset, HTC One M9 will receive its update, too.
On the other hand, it is said that the HTC's flagship phones may not receive the Lollipop 5.1.1 update, it appears that HTC will likely skip that phase and directly move into the newest update for the said devices, however, it is not yet known if when that release will take place.
A report from Yibada states that the Android Marshmallow is projected of bringing a bunch of significant improvements and fresh features. The Android and new features are said to include the improved app permissions, app links, fingerprint sensor, support for USB Type-C and Android Pay.
Based on the latest speculations online, Google plans to make the Android 6.0 Marshmallow available for the general public in September or October. This is supposed to be happening via LG Nexus 5 and Huawei Nexus 6 to be accompanied by the HTC's devices: the HTC One M9, One M9+ and LG G4.
