Google has started launching Android Pay in various locations on September 10 and the firm plans to gradually roll out the mobile pay in million locations across U.S. The application can work in any NFC-enabled Android devices and all carriers that run Kitkat 4.4 and above. Subscribers can still keep the benefits of purchased goods such as special offers and rewards on the phone.
Android Pay can support credit card and debit card through major payment networks such as American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa, according to Android's official blog. These cards can come from American Express, Bank of America, Discover, Navy Federal Credit Union, PNC, Regions Bank, USAA, and U.S. Bank. More so, Google said that Wells Fargo, Capital One, and Citi will be available soon to support cards for mobile pay.
Aside from the bank information, subscribers can utilize their Android Pay in various U.S stores such as Aeropostale, American Eagle Outfitters, Babies "R" Us, BJ's Wholesale Club, Bloomingdales, GameStop, Jamba Juice, Macy's, Office Depot, Panera Bread, Petco, Rite Aid, Sports Authority, Staples, Subway, Walgreens, Toys "R" Us, and Whole Foods, PCMag Asia noted.
Google also said that it will expand the use of Mobile payment across the country by adding locations and banks for cards. On the other hand, NFC-enabled Android devices and Kitkat 4.4 and above are the considerations for Mobile Pay to work, regardless of the carrier.
Further, Android's official blog said that subscribers need not to worry about their bank details saved on their devices since Android Pay is supported by Industry Standard Tokenization. It means that whenever the app is utilized, virtual account number is the one showing instead of the real bank account number. Subscribers can also see the payment confirmation with the location of the purchased goods. In the event of lost or stolen device, subscribers can easily go to Android Device Manager and can wipe out the bank details.
For current subscribers of Google Wallet, Android Pay can be updated through Wallet App. For potential subscribers, Android Pay is also downloadable on Google Play.
