Laughing Jackal to release 'Flame Over' with hordes of improvements on PS4

By

The firefighting action rogue-like "Flame Over" is making its jump to PS4 on September 16. The game was initially released on the Vita and Steam. The top-down shooter will not be available as a cross-buy, however, according to Laughing Jackal.

It was last March when PS4 was introduced and made available for PS Vita, according to IGN report. To those who haven't tried the game yet, "Flame Over" has a single-life gameplay with unmethodical levels and has been described as "pyroguelike" twin shooter. Players take the role of firefighters who have to rescue as many as possible without getting burnt alive. A new patch of the game for Vita owners will come out in succeeding weeks, bringing it in line as closely as possible with the upcoming PS4 version and fixing some bugs and balancing issues.

Unlike other 'shoot 'em up' games though, in "Flame Over", players will be using hoses, extinguishers and water bombs as they have to face and put out the indestructible fires ever seen in a video game, according to the statement made by Laughing Jackal in the Playstation Blog.

The game's PS4 version, obviously, will have a load of improvements compared to the PS Vita original. "Flame Over" on PS4 will have enhanced graphics which include real time shadows and bloom which will run at 1080p 60fps. A tutorial is also provided which will allow gamers to go through the first two levels unlocked and with all the equipment provided. There are additional rooms to explore in, secrets to reveal, and mechanics to perform; to make the ultimate version of Flame Over.

But strangely and sadly enough (for those who have the PS Vita version), Laughing Jackal disclosed that Flame Over will not include Cross Buy. According to Laughing Jackal's Senior Producer Alasdair Evans, they had put quite a bit of extra stuff to PS4 that much of which could not be done on Vita, on a technical standpoint, that is. That is why it was not really probable or fair to have both sets of players to join in or be together. What this only means is that each console has their own strengths that the player can be content about.

But some are not that convinced. According to Hardcore Gamer, when "Flame Over" was first released on PS Vita, it received a rather lukewarm reception from players, with a 69 metascore currently attached to it. And with the fall season, the port may be cast aside by more saleable consoles. More likely, which "Flame Over"'s developer might not approve of, is that the game did not do well on the Vita and the studio channeled it through the PS4 port to ride on its success.

Indeed, with PS4 hailed again as the best-selling console in August, according to the recent NPD sales report, Laughing Jackal might be firing it up for "Flame Over". But some of those who picked the game up from Vita and Steam either liked or were hooked at it. "Flame Over" for PS4 will be available on September 16 for $11.99.
