Sony's PS4 System Software 3.00 Update New Features Probed; Beta Test Program Commenced, Invites Still Ongoing

By

Sony recently announced the features of its System Software 3.00 for PS4. The beta testing also began at the dawn of the reveal. The announcement was swarmed in with comments from PS users just hours after it was posted in the Playstation blog. However, those with PS4 master accounts still await for an email notification from Sony to be a part of the beta program.

From increasing the online storage capacity from 1GB to 10GB, streaming gameplays to Youtube, sharing 10-second video clips to Twitter, creating Communities with message boards and screenshot sharing features, adding another element into the Friends app, inserting stickers to messages, to watching live broadcasts or sharing games with friends; these are just some of the key features of the PS4 system software update. The official announcement was made on September 1 at the Playstation Blog.

As if these are not enough updates for the new system software, PS4 owners and gaming fans have their own ideas and suggestions on what should be included in Kenshin (codename given by Sony for this System Software 3.00).

One of the many questions and comments include the new Favorite Groups feature added to the Friend app in the PS4 System Software 3.00. According to DualShockers, the add-on is more striking than many might expect. PS4 users can add just about everyone into it, and yes, including those who are not even in the Friends list.

Another welcoming feature of the PS4 System Software update is the Communities section. NDTV Gadgets explained that users can now create their own communities according to their interests, game, preferences, genres, and more. Discussions can be done through message boards and screenshot sharing. They can also join a big party, say, in games like Final Fantasy XIV and Destiny which typically have a big number of players.

According to SCEA PR Manager Andrew Kelly, "[Nope,] you can add anyone you want to a Favorite Group. For me, it will be lots of Destiny groups - my Prison Of Elders crew, Vault of Glass crew, etc. Communities is like a big hub where you can discover players around shared interests, regardless of whether you are friends with them or not. Great way to meet new players!"

Other suggested updates which appeared in the Playstation Blog comments include blue tooth support for headsets, offline trophies, folders for more organized menus, homescreen modification, external hard drive support, enable PSN ID change, among others. Sony might have missed these basic features PS users had long been requesting, but the firm said that "there's more included in this update;" and this was just a quick run-down of the items they are most excited about to share with their consumers.

The beta program started on September 1, at the eve of Sony's announcement. Others still eagerly await for email notifications from Sony. The company confirmed that they were still rolling out invites, but the majority of testers should have had them on September 2.

PS4 users should ease off a bit as these given features for the System Software update were way over than what everyone expected. Sony admitted that these are just the first batch of those updates they're still finalizing in the studios. And as the beta progresses and ends, all of these will be weighed out by Sony eventually.
