Singer Josh Groban will guest star as the new love interest of Miss Piggy in an upcoming episode of the come-backing The Muppets series. He will be her first boyfriend after her nasty split from longtime boyfriend Kermit the Frog was announced last month.
This won't be the new couple's first onscreen collaboration reports Entertainment Weekly. Groban had a cameo in 2014's Muppets Most Wanted movie while the gang from The Muppets appeared in his Pure Imagination music video earlier this year.
Fans of Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog should not feel bad for him though. Newsday reports that a photo has surfaced recently of Kermit with a Miss Piggy look-a-like muppet said to be named Denise. She appears to be a slender and red haired version of his ex. Hmmm...it seems Kermit has an attraction for a certain type.
Besides the photo, Kermit had mentioned his new love interest during a press conference in August where he announced the end of his 40 year relationship with Miss Piggy.
However, in true Hollywood fashion, Kermit denied that he is already off the market. He posted on Twitter, "While I prefer to keep my personal life private, this is Hollywood, so who am I kidding? It is true that I am dating again. However, at this time no one woman -- pig or otherwise -- is my official new girlfriend. We are simply close friends."
What is known so far of the new The Muppets is that it has ditched its variety show format and has reinvented itself as a mockumentary in a late night talk show backdrop says She Knows. The intimate thoughts of the characters will be captured in the confessional style of Modern Family and The Office. At the same time, it will have a reality show vibe focusing on Miss Piggy's post-breakup love-life. The beloved porcine will be the host of the talk show where Kermit is the executive producer.
Among the muppets appearing in the show with the former couple are Gonzo, Fozzie, Animal, Statler, Waldorf and the Swedish chef. Each of them is confirmed to have a job to do in the fictional talk show.
Watch how the Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog split (and their new romances) affect their new show when The Muppets premieres on September 22 on ABC.
