In the past two seasons of The Blacklist, Raymond Reddington has been helping Elizabeth Keen and the FBI take down some of the world's most dangerous criminals who are in his blacklist. So what happens when the tables are turned when the two find themselves on the run from the law instead? They may even need to ask the help of the same people they were working to put behind bars.
The Backlist Season 3 will see a new dynamic in the relationship of Redd and Liz as they turn fugitives after the FBI agent shot the corrupt Attorney General Tom Connolly in the Season 2 finale. In an interview with TVLine, series creator Jon Bokenkamp admits that the Season 3 premiere, entitled Troll Hunter, "Feels like a pilot in and of itself. There's a really strange and powerful dynamic that [Red and Liz] have. Their resources are so incredible, and they complement each other in a really nice way."
Producers of the show however warned that questions about their relationship will not be answered in early episodes. "In the course of 22 episodes, we will of course give more answers about the past. But at the moment the season opens, we are focused entirely on the present," EP John Eisendrath says in the same interview. He also added that the new season will answer more questions from the previous one.
The Christian Post meanwhile reveals that Tom Keen will be coming back but will be faced with a different perspective concerning his relationship with Liz. Last season's finale saw him sailing off to the sunset and he did not know that his wife assassinated the Attorney General. They have basically switched places in their lives and circumstances.
Bokenkamp says in an Entertainment Weekly interview that even as Tom is trying to come clean and find redemption in her eyes, Liz is now the one feeling the desperation of being on the other side of the law and trying to operate in the shadows.
How Tom will learn of Liz' situation, and if he will help her get out of it are among the things that may reel in viewers for The Blacklist Season 3 premiere on October 1.
