'The Tonight Show' host Jimmy Fallon opens up on new rival Stephen Colbert, says 'The more the merrier'

Talk host Jimmy Fallon recently opened up on what it's like having his good friend, Stephen Colbert, as a 'late-night host' rivalry. The 40-year-old comedian and host of "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" joined Ellen DeGeneres on her show to discuss the matter.

According to Eonline, Jimmy Fallon opened up to Ellen DeGeneres on what it's like having good friend, fellow comedian and talk host, Stephen Colbert, as competition. After Stephen Colbert became the host of "The Late Show," the two comedians have been facing it off as they now have the same timeslot of 11:30pm on different networks.

Last Friday on the "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," Jimmy was in the hot seat as Ellen decided to dig dipper into the possible "clash" of the two talk hosts. However, according to the comedian he has nothing but compliments and praise for his pal, and his new late night show.

New York Daily News reported that when asked by Ellen on his view of the matter, Jimmy straight away answered back without hesitating saying, "Well, yeah it's interesting I mean he's just as you know one of the nicest guys out there. So I think the more the merrier."

Fallon then continued saying, "I think it just brings more attention to late night. It gets more people watching TV in general. So I think we all win. I mean there's room for everybody." After Ellen stated that his response was "diplomatic," Jimmy went on saying "There are so many channels and so many different people and personalities and different tastes. The more the merrier I love the guy he's a good guy!"

In another report from Entertainment Weekly, the famous talk show host even took to twitter to congratulate and wish his friend all the best of luck on his new show. Fallon even jokingly added 'Break a finger' in his tweet which was referring to a recent accident 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon' host had. Apparently Jimmy Fallon suffered from a severe hand injury which led him to take a few weeks off from his show over the summer.

Despite the competition the two now face, both Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert remain good friends. Though ratings between both shows have varied over the weeks, Jimmy has mainly stayed on top with the most tuned-in views. However, as both Jimmy and Stephen are stepping up their game, no one knows what to expect in the upcoming weeks from the two late night hosts.
