Liam Neeson is Father Cristovao Ferreira in Martin Scorsese's upcoming film, Silence and the actor described the film as very spiritual, and testament of the power of faith. After principal photography, Andrew Garfield is now planning to cut off his hair after playing as Father Rodrigues in the film.

As reported by Screen Rant, filming for Silence is now a step closer to hitting the big screen after it wrapped principal photography. The film is a movie adaptation of Shusaku Endo's novel which is set in 17th century Japan.

The film tells the story of Portuguese Jesuit Missionaries who travel to Japan to find their mentor in an era when persecution is ongoing for Christianity. Explaining his character to The Wall Street Journal, Neeson said that his character went to Japan with the intention of spreading the word but eventually ended up giving his faith up.

"He was a Jesuit, a very great, powerful Jesuit. Very learned, he was highly respected as a teacher and he actually lived and he went to Japan to spread the Christian word. Somewhere along the line he apostatized, meaning he gave up the faith completely. When he was found, he had taken a wife, he was wearing a Japanese kimono, and for all intents and purposes had given up Christ", Nesson explained.

Garfield and Adam Driver's character then go on a journey to find him and confirm the stories about his apostasy given his standing in the church. "It's very powerful. A very profound film about faith and the nature of faith and spirituality", Neeson described the film.

After growing his hair for the role, International Business Times reported that Garfield is now thinking about cutting his hair. The report cited Garfield saying that he found his hair as a hassle and that he is over it.

Religious themes and symbolims are to be expected in Silence directed by Martin Scorsese and screenplay by Jay Cocks. The cast also includes Ciaran Hinds, Tadanobu Asano, and Shin'ya Tsukamoto. It is expected to be released in theaters some time in 2016.
