'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' director James Gunn begins preparations for the sequel's production in Atlanta ahead of the previously reported filming schedule for February 2016. Vin Diesel also confirmed that he will be returning to join original cast mates for the sequel.
According to Movie Web, Gunn said that the cast and crew of the upcoming Marvel film will be moving to Atlanta in preparation for production. They are reportedly going to construct special sets just for the movie. It was said that Gunn will be residing in the area for the next 10 months of pre-production and filming.
It was previously reported by Comic Book.com that the official start of principal photography for 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' will be on February 2016. It remains unconfirmed who among the original cast will be back to reprise their roles. The first film included Chris Pratt's Peter Quill/Star Lord, Zoe Saldana's Gamora, Dave Bautista's Drax the Destroyer, Bradley Cooper's Rocket, and Vin Diesel's Groot.
At the end of the first film, Groot was seen sacrificing himself for his comrades. When all seemed lost, a sapling grew from inside a pot signaling the possibility of Groot's rebirth.
In an article by Slash Film, Diesel was confirmed to be returning to the sequel as the voice of the cheerful tree-like humanoid. Gunn himself revealed the news and also debunked several rumored cameos that have made its way around fan hoards. He denied that Captain Marvel and the Hulk will be making an appearance in his second film.
'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' is set to be released on May 5, 2017. The sequel will be the third film in Phase 3 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The first film in the series was declared a massive cinematic success, earning $774 million against a $195 million budget according to Box Office Mojo.
