One of the latest Justin Bieber news this week may shock a lot of Shawn Mendes fans. During Bieber's appearance on New York radio station 95.5 PLJ on Tuesday, Sept. 15, Bieber left tongues wagging when he claimed that he doesn't know who Shawn Mendes is.
It all started when the "What Do You Mean" singer, 21, talked about the beginning of his singing career. The host, Ralphie Aversa, who interviewed him for the very first time in 2009 tried to drew connection to the popular singer and newcomer, Shawn, 17, MTV reports.
"Who is Shawn Mendes?" The Biebs asked Aversa.
The host quickly responded, "Oh! He's on Island. He's from southern Ontario. He's 17 years old. He's got a song called 'Stitches' that's, like, doing okay at pop radio."
"Nice. Nice. Good for him," The 21-year-old "Where Are U Now?" singer answered.
Aversa explained Bieber that he thought he knew Mendes who's also from Southern Ontario. The former ex of Selena Gomez again claimed that he doesn't know him, but he will check on him for sure. According to Spin, it comes as a surprise that Bieber doesn't know Mendes, who's also signed in the Island.
Mendes' album "Handwritten" hits the top of Billboard 200 in April making him the youngest artist to bang the title since Bieber. In an interview, he claimed that his music is different from Bieber, and he look up more to Ed Sheeran when it comes to music, Toronto Sun reports. He also prefers not to call him "the next Justin Bieber."
"But (Justin's) stuff and style are totally different. When I play shows it's just me and the guitar, so it's kind of unique. I mean, I really look up to Ed Sheeran. I really look up to Bruno Mars, and yeah, Justin's great too."
Bieber's news comes after the "Stitches" singer claimed that he really loves Justin's song "What Do You Mean?" According to some sources, it appears strange that he doesn't know Mendes when it was just announced on Tuesday that both of them are going to appear at the MTV European Music Awards next month to receive their Best Canadian Act Award. Do you think Bieber really doesn't know Mendes?
