Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Release Update for Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime on Verizon

By

Being the only major mobile carrier in the US that has not rolled out the latest Android Lollipop to Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime, Verizon is now expected to keep up with the growing competition in mobile tech industry. AT&T, Sprint, US Cellular and T-Mobile already have released the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to its units.

Verizon is slated to release the Galaxy Grand Prime with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop's official over-the-air update. There is no final word from the carrier however whether or not the update will be released later this month as the Marshmallow software debuts.

Samsung has already released the Android 5.1.1 to Galaxy Grand Prime since the final week of August and had come to terms with Sprint, US Cellular and T-Mobile. According to reports, Verizon and Samsung have been pushing the burden when consumer complaints sparked in community forums of the network's support page.

Being the biggest carrier in the US in terms of consumers, Verizon Wireless has been in the loop of Android updates most especially to its flagship devices. In Samsung's support page, Galaxy Grand Prime on Verizon is listed currently running on Android 5.1.1.

Aside from Galaxy Grand Prime, Verizon also has not rolled out yet the final Lollipop software version to Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S2, Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Core Prime, Galaxy Mega 2, Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 and Galaxy Tab S 2, among others.

This laundry list of un-updated Samsung devices of Verizon contributed to a bunch of open forums in the carrier's site. Analysts suggest Verizon Wireless has to keep up with its updates-small or major-to manage loyal patrons from falling away. In several sites, many Verizon members are already pinning down threats to leave the carrier.

Meanwhile, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop brings new features and enhancements in Material Design, more notification controls, device sharing, and device syncing.

  • Material Design. Enjoy a more colorful and fresh new look and feel. Lollipop brings in more fluid animations along with improved apps and personalization options like colors, widgets and themes.
  • Device syncing. Apps, song, photos and even recent searches from one Android device can be accessed fully across all other Android devices.
  • Notification controls. Worry less because with the new notification controls, users can now adjust settings to sift people and notifications go get through. Users can also directly respond from lock screen when it is important.
  • Device sharing. Sharing device can now be done more securely through guest user mode. Create multiple user accounts to allow friends to access device to prevent them from accessing owner's private files. With Android Smart Lock, secure device by pairing it with trusted device like any wearable or even car.

Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will come via firmware over-the-air (FOTA) release and in stages; it may take to some units on a later date. If prompted that an update is available, follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
