Stephen Amell apologizes for Ahmed Mohamed comment after Twitter backlash, says he will 'go away for a bit'

"Arrow" star Stephen Amell apologized after creating a backlash on social media for a comment he made on Texas teenager Ahmed Mohamed. The actor also stated that he will "go away for a bit" on a video.

The actor said that he is taking a break from his social media account following his thoughts on Texas teenager Ahmed Mohamed created a buzz in the online world. Amell shared a Facebook video on Wednesday night where he made an apology for his comments made earlier in the day.

"I didn't mean to offend anyone today. I wasn't trying to equate things that are very, very different," he made the issue clear. "I was simply trying to say that two wrongs don't make a right. I think I did offend people." He continued by saying, "The best thing to do in this scenario is just go away for a little bit so be well, I'll be back and that's it."

The actor seemingly made the video to explain his side of the issue. Earlier in the day, the actor tweeted on his Twitter page stating, "Stereotyping Texas isn't any better than stereotyping Ahmed. Just so we're clear." After that tweet, Amell tried to explain himself in a numerous posts throughout the day. He claimed, "What happened to Ahmed was terrible. Obviously."

He added, "I happened to read a series of tweets pronouncing that this is a systemic problem in Texas, which is also profiling. It's profiling in a much less hurtful / destructive way... but it is profiling. Anywho, I'm not apologizing or deleting the tweets. If you're outraged at an opinion it's because you're bored."

Previously, the 14-year-old teen was detained after bringing a self-made alarm clock into his school, MacArthur High School, in Irvine, Texas. One of his teachers thought the device was a bomb and contacted police officers, who got the student out of the school in handcuffs and into juvenile custody.

According to Variety, the lead star also removed the profile pictures on his Twitter and Facebook accounts. Amell also posted a same written message with that of his shared Facebook video explaining his comments about the youngster.

Although many of his Twitter followers argued with his comments on the adolescent, that doesn't mean that his supporters would give up on the actor too. Reportedly, his fans still adore the actor's acting skills and would still love to see him on his projects this year and in the coming years.
