'London Has Fallen' has been pushed back again, this time to a March 4, 2016 release. While news of the movie release delay came out, the film's actor, Gerard Butler was seen leaving the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) to return to LA.
According to Deadline Hollywood, 'London Has Fallen' has fallen back 6 weeks from its planned 22 January 2016 release, to 4 March 2016. Focus Features explained that the film's date change is due to several factors. One key factor is that the film is "coming off strong research screenings", showing that a "spring break launch" is best for the sequel. Additional is also needed for the completion of the film's visual effects.
Focus Features president of domestic distribution Jim Orr states that the release date change is the "strongest possible release window" for 'London Has Fallen'. He adds that the film is a would-be successful film and the studio wants to allot all the time needed to ensure its best production.
Variety reported that the Gerard Butler film has four other titles with it on the March 4 release: Sony's 'Grimsby,' Fox's 'Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children,' Disney's 'Zootopia' and Open Road's 'Triple Nine. Despite competition, 'London Has Fallen' is expected to do well in the box office just like its predecessor, 'Olympus Has Fallen.'
Meanwhile, its lead star Gerard Butler left the TIFF last Wednesday, which is the same day news about the release date change of ''London Has Fallen'', according to the Daily Mail UK. Butler hasn't given any comment regarding the movie premiere delays. He was also the lead in the 2013 'Olympus Has Fallen.'
Butler will reprise his role as the exceptional U.S. Secret Service agent that will now deal on a London attack on the funeral day of the mysteriously dead British prime minister. Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman are also in the film. Focus Features expects 'London Has Fallen' to be a spring hit, just like 'Olympus Has Fallen.' Hopefully, this is the final date change and Gerard Butler will grace the silver screen once more as Mike Banning this March 2016.
