Android 6.0 Marshmallow is nearing to be launched. One of the most anticipated features, Google Now on Tap, can be now be tested on the latest Android M developers preview version.
Google Now on Tap is a much better version of the search engine giant's digital assistant, rivalling Apple's Siri and Microsoft's Cortana. It's contextually-aware of the user's activity in the device. This means that Google Now analyses and checks what the user is currently doing to become prepared on whatever the user may ask.
One instance where Google Now on Tap can be used is when the user is watching a movie. If the user was watching "Django Unchained" and asks who the director of the film is, Google Now may answer with Quentin Tarantino.
Google Now on Tap will be arriving together with Android M will be releasing later this fall, according to Phone Arena. However, determined testers can still preview the feature under the 5.3.19.19.arm version of the Android Marshmallow preview.
The update on the Google App installs the Now on Tap feature for those running the said Android M preview for selected devices. For those who aren't on the developer preview for Android 6.0, the update can still work fine. However, the Google Now on Tap will not be available.
For those who are eligible to try Now on Tap, Phandroid reports that they can just long press the home button and Google will automatically scan the content on screen and suggest appropriate keywords to help the user.
Users should note that there are still a lot of bugs and error messages that may be encountered since its still under the testing stage.
Aside from Google Now on Tap, Android Police reports that the new update also brings changes to the Android launcher. It now features the new vertical app drawer and a widget list for the user to choose from.
Google is yet to officially launch the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow version in the coming days. Meanwhile Goolgle Now on Tap can be tested on other Android devices with the latest developer preview version.
