'Prince Charming' is a live-action take on the titular character found in numerous Disney films often portrayed as the female protagonist's ideal hero who goes on a quest to save her. The movie will be adapted from the script by Matt Fogel and produced by Mandeville Films.
The titular character did not have his own standalone film in the past, however, he has appeared in various films with different animated leading ladies. According to the Daily Mail, an example would be the similar princes in 'Sleeping Beauty', 'Snow White', and 'Cinderella' - the latter of which was the only one called Charming. Despite the character appearing with different names, he is still considered one and the same in role and purpose.
According to the Guardian, the live-action adaptation will take the spotlight away from Prince Charming himself and will instead focus on an unheard of brother who doesn't live up to their family's name. The film will be a comedy and has been penned by Matt Fogel of 'Big Momma' series fame.
Disney outbid all other studios for the script and is all set to include the princely headliner among its already successful big-screen takes including 'Maleficent', 'Cinderella', and 'Alice in Wonderland'.
It was reported by Variety that David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films and Trip Vinson will be producing 'Prince Charming' together with executive producer Alex Young. It was also stated that the upcoming film will be Fogel's big break after working as an assistant to Phil Lord and Chris Miller during the filming of the popular animated film 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs'. Although details are scant, it was confirmed that the adaptation will be a revisionist take on the classic character.
'Prince Charming' is an upcoming live-action adaptation of the heroic gentleman who stereotypically rescues damsels-in-distress in several Disney tales. The character is most often known as one handsome, brave and romantic. Several parodies of the hero have emerged in films such as 'Shrek' and 'Enchanted'.
