‘Fifty Shades Darker’ Updates: Dakota Johnson reveals impact of film on dating life, teases production begins next year under director James Foley

'Fifty Shades Darker' actress Dakota Johnson revealed during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres that her role as Anastasia Steele in the erotic big-screen adaptation left quite a huge impact on her off-screen dating life. She also teased that production on the sequel will begin sometime next year.

According to a clip from the Ellen television show posted by Movie Fone, Johnson revealed that playing the leading role of one of the most famous submissives in modern pop culture left some interesting impressions in her everyday life. She said that people tend to get awkward around her and that some have even been intimidated. She also admitted that men may be scared of her - which is why she is not involved in any romantic relationship off-screen.

Another article from US Magazine reported that the 25-year old actress made it clear that she wouldn't want any of her family to see the racy series of films based on author E.L. James' novels. She politely disclosed that none of her kin including her father Don Johnson and mother Melanie Griffith had watched the first film 'Fifty Shades of Grey' and she hoped that they never would. She also hinted that production for the second installment will begin sometime in 2016.

Johnson also revealed further details for 'Fifty Shades Darker' during an interview at the Venice Film Festival, according to Harper's Bazaar. She revealed that director James Foley will helm the second project since previous director Sam Taylor-Johnson opted not to return for further films.

She said, "There was a moment of being afraid, because I didn't know what it was going to be like. I had an experience with Sam [Taylor-Johnson] and then that all went away. Now I'm excited. I think James is a talented filmmaker. How often do you get to reconvene with the same people and have a different spin?"

The actress is attached to recent films including 'Black Mass' together with Johnny Depp as well as 'Chloe and Theo', 'A Bigger Splash', 'Cymbeline' and 'How To Be Single'. She made her acting debut in 1999 for 'Crazy in Alabama' directed by her stepfather Antonio Banderas. She also played the lead role in the short-lived television series 'Ben and Kate' that only aired from 2012 to 2013.

'Fifty Shades Darker' is an upcoming romance-thriller scheduled to be released in February 10, 2017. It is the sequel to the highly successful first film in the trilogy that hit the big screens last February 13, 2015. Its predecessor earned a whopping $569 million against a $40 million budget despite general criticism from critics and audiences alike.
