‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Updates: Professor X and Magneto on opposing ends again; Will Magneto remain with Apocalypse?

By

'X-men: Apocalypse' has wrapped up production, yet plot details on how best-friends-worst-enemies Professor X and Magneto will face off remain scarce. While being the leads of this film, surprisingly, little details have been fleshed out regarding the relationship between Professor X and Magneto, as most of the publicity has gone to Apocalypse and the younger recasting of the other X-men.

According to Cinema Blend, James McAvoy's Professor X will be the bald leader that Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier was. Being a pacifist, Professor X naturally refuses to join Apocalypse in his world domination plan and leads the opposing force. However, with Professor X comes Magneto, played by Michael Fassbender. Magneto's alter-ego, Erik Lensherr is said to have fallen in love and has settled down in a peaceful life in Poland. With the ending of 'X-Men: Days of Future Past', Professor X and Magneto seemed to have reconciliation as peaceful as theirs could be.

However, as events would have it, at a low point in Magneto's life Apocalypse has convinced him to join him as one of his Four Horsemen, pitting him once more against Professor X. With this, it is unknown whether there will be much interaction between McAvoy's Xavier and Fassbender's Magneto.

According to Movie Pilot, the 'X-Men: Apocalypse' may show more of Magneto's relationship with his now confirmed son, Quicksilver. Hinted in 'X-Men: Days of Future Past', this relationship will also play a role in Magneto's current character, and eventual fate. Meanwhile, Professor X had re-established Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, and is set to meet the would-be pivotal mutants, such as Jean Grey, Cyclops and Storm.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, producer Simon Kinberg clarified that with the events of Days of the Future Past, the timeline has been reset, this allows things to unfold differently as they did in X-men 1, 2 and 3. He added that what the movies will set now "becomes canon."

Set 10 years after the 1973 events of 'X-Men: Days of Future Past', Professor X and Magneto are part of the battle created by Apocalypse, a mutant who could be the oldest and an immortal. Set to close the current trilogy and open a new franchise storyline, 'X-Men: Apocalypse' is expected to as successful, if not more, as 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'.
