Chad Stahelski, and David Leitch, the directors of instant cult classic "John Wick," have confirmed that Keanu Reeves is coming back to reprise his role in the most awaited sequel "John Wick 2."
Stahelski has stated that the movie is now on the process of development. He proved that Leitch and him has been brainstorming for quite some time to come up with ideas for an outstanding plot for "John Wick 2." According to the director, they have been open for creating a sequel but only in the condition that they will have a better story than the first film.
Jason Constantine, the executive producer of Lionsgate has also confirmed that Keanu Reeves is going to be a part of "John Wick 2." In a statement, Constantine said: "With such tremendous fan and critical support for 'John Wick,' we knew that there was still so much more of this story to tell." Reeves was recently honored in Deauville Film Festival in France which recognized his demonstration of ability to take on extremely varied roles during his long and impressive movie career.
The original "John Wick" movie follows a retired deadly assassin who comes back to his past world to seek vengeance from the killers of his dog which was a gift from his late wife. One of the killers turned out to be his former mentor's son.
Released in 2014, "John Wick" was a blockbuster success, having done a business of over $14.1 million in only its opening weekend. The film became one of the most victorious films of that year with a total box-office collection of $43 million in the U.S and $80 million worldwide from its humble budget of $20 million. Lionsgate/Summit Ascot is the franchise's new distributor and is eyeing to turn it into a multi-film franchise.
"John Wick 2" is still in the very early stages of pre-production and the cast has not been announced. Fans will be on the lookout on who will reprise their roles from the original movie. The original cast includes John Leguizamo as Aurelio, Michael Nyqvist as Viggo Tarasov, Alfie Allen as Iosef Tarasov and Willem Dafoe as Marcus.
