A sequel of the crime drama "Sicario" will most likely focus on Benicio Del Toro's character as a silent assassin. The first film is still being shown in six theaters and later on with other theaters worldwide. The film has already gained so much momentum in terms of sales that producers are already working on a sequel. Co-chair of Lionsgate Patrick Wachsberger shares his thoughts about the success of the first film.
Variety shares that Lionsgate co-chair Patrick Wachsberger has spoken about the success of the first film and that they are in talks for the "Sicario" sequel. Wachsberger couldn't hide his excitement about how "Sicario" performed during its debut. They released the prequel in only six theaters but it raked a per-screen average of $66,881 and an overall total of $401,288, making it the highest of the year. In spite of the movie performing beyond their expectations, the rollout will still be at a calculated rate. It will be released in 65 locations and 11 cities this coming weekend then will go global by October 2, 2015.
Wachsberg says that Lionsgate is aiming for multiple Oscar awards with the "Sicario" film. He says that the movie has the potential to be nominated and hopefully awarded an Oscar in various categories such as best cinematography, best movie, best director, best actor and best music. Patrick also adds that Roger Deakins will eventually land an Oscar for the eerie shots of nighttime raids and fierce border confrontations. Deakins hasn't been able to garner a single award out of his 12 nominations for his previous work.
EW adds that the co-chair of Lionsgate was quoted saying, "Before the release of this movie, I was talking to Denis and I said, 'What happened to this character? Where is Benicio going?" Denis Villeneuve is the director for the film "Sicario" which stars Emily Blunt. She plays an FBI agent set to take down a Mexican drug cartel boss. They aim to put more emphasis on the character of Benicio Del Toro for the "Sicario" sequel.
But it's not because Blunt didn't do a good job since Wachsberg is all praises for her performance. He says that Blunt is "credible" on her performance. He also adds "You end the movie wondering what's going to happen? What happened to her character? Is she becoming a wolf?" Patrick practically agrees to an Oscar win for Blunt's performance as predicted by critics.
Coming Soon reports that the "Sicario" sequel will revolve around Benicio Del Toro's character. Academy award winner del Toro plays a silent assassin in the movie written by Taylor Sheridan. Cast include Jon Bernthal, Emmy Award nominee Victor Garber, Academy award nominee Josh Brolin and produced by Edward L. McDonell, Basil Iwanyk, Thad and Trent Lickinbill and lastly Molly Smith.
With the first film gaining some heat in ticket sales in its first six theater showing, producers are hopeful that it will balloon when it lands in movie houses worldwide. Lionsgate and Patrick Wachsberger have already a "Sicario" sequel being prepped up but will most likely have Benicio del Toro's character as the lead role.
