'The Commuter' Movie Updates: Liam Neeson plays lead role; Director's chair, supporting casts list remain empty

By

Although Liam Neeson hinted that he'll be retiring from action films, it seemed that the 63- year old, veteran actor isn't planning to take it slowly. Now, reports say that he will be taking another lead role as "The Commuter" in the StudioCanal's suspense thriller film.

Deadline confirmed that Neeson has signed up for the project. In the report, the production will begin filming in New York in the spring. Byron Willinger and Phil de Blasi will be penning the script along with Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman as the producers.

However, The Guardian reported that the director's chair is still empty as well as the supporting cast lists. With all the success of his previous movies, it appeared like he was the go-to star for action thriller projects just like "Taken" trilogy and "Run All Night" of the Warner Bros.

Liam Neeson will portray a businessman role in "The Commuter" which will follow his daily journey home and he soon becomes involved in a criminal conspiracy, as noted on Empire. The caught up situation will bring danger to his life and to those around him.

Sources say that the StudioCanal will be financing the project through The Picture Company. In 2010, Olatunde Osunsanmi (The Fourth Kid) was assigned to direct the original film but that was the last report from the project. This film will be a reunion for StudioCanals and Liam Neeson since they all worked together on the latest thrillers, "Unknown" and "Non-Stop".

While this will be Neeson's next project, he still has more projects in his plate. He will be seen on Martin Scorsese's Silence and in A Monster Calls. Aside from those, three more movies are linked to his name such as A Willing Patriot, Narco Sub and The Revenger.

So, it seems like "The Commuter" is an addition to Neeson's busy schedule. But, people expect to have a glimpse of it after his fantastic performance in his recent movies. The release date is yet to be announced.
