After walking out from an interview with a Radio Times writer about his new film "The Intern", Robert de Niro was tagged as "condescending". Reports suggest that since de Niro ended his recent interviews early, he might as well end his movie career early too.
According to the Dailymail UK, de Niro who is known for his nonsense attitude, finally met his match in his recent interview. The notoriously difficult actor was labeled as "condescending" by Radio Times writer Emma Brockes after he took offense at her questions. He reportedly ended the interview after telling the interviewer "I'm not doing this, darling."
De Niro was promoting his new comedy film, "The Intern" co-starring Anne Hathaway, when the incident happened. He reportedly seemed "depressed" as he delivered some automatic answers, even though he looked "glumly". But the Oscar-winner lost it when Brockes kept on asking him how he resists the temptation to go into "autopilot" mode on the set. She also followed up her observation that the Tribeca district of New York, where De Niro co-founded a film festival, has been taken over by bankers.
As reported by the Independet UK, the veteran actor requested Brockes to stop her recorder. Later on, she then wrote in the magazine: "He then pops up out of his chair, starts pacing madly and says he's cutting short the interview because of the "negative inference" of what I just said."
After they exchanged boiling statements, the interviewer concluded the incident. She claimed, "His jaw is working and he looks wildly around the room as if in search of a window to jump through. 'I'm not doing this, darling,' he says. 'I think you're very condescending.' 'Oh, you think 'darling' is condescending?'" But then, Brockes claimed that she had "sympathy" for the 72-year-old actor since nobody wants to be there to answer those questions for a choreographed interview.
Before the interview, de Niro's movie has already earned negative reviews. "The Intern" sees the actor starring opposite Anne Hathaway as an intern for her fashion website. His latest movie even received negative reviews with the Hollywood Reporter claiming that the film is a "middling star vehicle".
And now, after the walk out incident, John Patterson of The Guardian asked whether de Niro needs early retirement since he stopped his interviews early. As per the article, 10 years earlier, De Niro had an awesome career when the movies he did make a difference and were worth seeing. It claimed that he was once well-renowned for his expertise in acting, especially when he did "Raging Bull" and "Mean Streets". The veteran lead star never overacts his characters, but his portrayal is wonderful to see.
But then, as the years passed by, the news website stated that he had portrayed roles in a list of rotten movies for three decades now. These include films like "The Big Wedding", "The Family", "Last Vegas", "Grudge Match", and "Killing Season". It also mentioned that not many are looking forward for "The Intern" which sees him as an elderly playing the role of a novice intern in Anne Hathaway's company.
Meanwhile, the film continues to earn negative reviews from movie websites, and de Niro is still mum after his walk out incident. "The Intern" is released in UK cinemas on October 2.
