Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Update Guide for Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 on AT&T

Mobile carrier AT&T has finally rolled out over the air the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop's official update to Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 following Verizon's steps. Lollipop's final software version will come along with new features and enhancements.

AT&T, one of the biggest mobile carriers in the United States, has just released earlier yesterday the Android 5.1.1 to Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0. Last week, it was already reported that the update will come when Android 6.0 Marshmallow debuts to some select phones. It fortunately comes earlier than expected.

Early this month, Verizon also rolled out the same Android update to its units of Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy J1, and Galaxy Tab S. Meanwhile, some unlocked versions of mid-range smartphones like the Galaxy Grand Prime and Galaxy Core Prime already received the update.

The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update will bring in Galaxy Apps auto install, reactivation lock, new Material Design, and Android security patches. Here's a quick guide to these features:

  • Galaxy Apps auto install. The app store features hundreds of exclusive apps that allow users to easily customize their devices as well as offer exclusive access to Galaxy app promotions and discounts.
  • Reactivation lock. Reactivation lock lets you use your Samsung account to prevent others from activating your device if it's ever lost or stolen. With Reactivation lock turned on, you will be required to enter your Samsung account credentials prior to starting a factory reset of the device.
  • Material Design. Android Lollipop brings the all-new material design, offering fluid animations, vivid colored-themes, and 3-D views for a more visually pleasurable experience.
  • Lighter Color Theme. Lollipop brings brighter look and feel, bold colors, and fluid animation inspired by material design.
  • Recently Used. This feature now uses the parallax scrolling effect for easier access, while multi-window icons have been added for ease-of-use during multi-tasking.
  • Basic Interaction. Lollipop brings bolder color, fluid animation effects, and interactions based on Lollipop. Meanwhile, the on/off toggle button style updated based on material design.
  • Floating Action Button. Floating Action Buttons are added for ease of access on emphasized features, such as adding a new contact or calendar entry.
  • Lock Screen. Material design-inspired notifications on the lock screen have been set.
  • Notification Settings. Ability to set priority and privacy for notifications on lock screen has also been added.

The update shall end roughly two weeks after it first came out. If prompted for the update, just follow onscreen instructions. Make sure the device is charged to at least 50% and has enough memory space.
