In her memoir book, "Never Broken: Songs Are Only Half the Story," Jewel claimed that she fell in love with the actor, Sean Penn during the time he just called it quits with his second wife, Robin Wright. The singer, who's now married to Ty Murray wrote the details about her brief romance in the '90s with the 55-year-old director. It was the time that she was just newly launched as a singer.

Jewel wrote that her first encounter with Penn happened during her first TV break in the "Conan O'Brien's Show." After seeing her on the show, she got a call from him asking her to compose a track for his movie, "The Crossing Guard." The Grammy-nominated singer agreed to write the song with the expectation that he would not show up again, E! News reports. However, she was caught off guard when he returned and ended up her composing the track, "Emily."

It was then Jewel claimed that their romance began. It was then her heart was caught under his spell.

"We spoke on the phone a lot and he was a fantastic flirt and I did not mind one bit," she shared on her memoir."But I was no fool and knew I was most likely a trifle to him. I intended to give him no such conquest. I put that man through his paces and he took it in stride. He began to court me in earnest, following me around on tour, acting as my de facto roadie."

Jewel continued, Penn went out with him to the Venice Film Festival. She recalled, she met Jack Nicholson during the time. The 41-year-old songstress admitted she knew that time, the glittering world of Hollywood was not for her. He brought her to see Montartre and gave her love notes that she confessed made her fall in love with him, UsWeekly reports.

As fast as their romance spurred, it also died down the same year when Penn got back together with the "Forrest Gump" actress, with whom he has two children, Hopper and Dylan. The two tied the knot in 1996 and divorced in 2010. He recently broke up with Charlize Theron. On the other hand, Jewel got married with Murray in 2008 and divorced him after six years. Jewel and her former husband are parents to their four-year-old son, Kase.

Meanwhile, Jewel opened up that her split with Penn caused her a massive heartache. In an interview with Howard Stern on Monday, she said that during that time, he's the only one who believes her so much even she's just starting. This week, Penn filed a $10 million lawsuit against Lee Daniels for linking him to a domestic abuse.

Jewel and Penn are both in the headlines this week, but the actor hasn't commented on his fizzled love story with the singer. Jewel's memoir is already out in the stores.
