Leonardo Di Caprio's latest film "The Revenant" officially receives R Rating from the MPAA. Director Alejandro G. Iñárritu's 19th century frontier set drama was cited with "strong frontier combat and violence including gory images, a sexual assault, language and brief nudity."
Oscar winner director and creator of "Birdman," Iñárritu went the extra mile of capturing the intensity and pragmatism of the story. Based on true events, "The Revenant" follows hunter Hugh Glass played by Di Caprio in his pursuit of survival and revenge. He wants to seek vengeance after he was left to die by his companions in a rather disturbing and lethal bear mauling. He consequently rouses and sets out for settling of scores. Actors Tom Hardy who plays Glass' confidant that has forsaken him and Domhnall Gleeson as Andrew Henry must come face to face with Glass' wrath.
Iñárritu, alongside cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki shot the film in remote locations using natural light. The hurdles with unpredictable weather forced them to discard major photography this spring and started back in July, down near Antarctica, in order to shoot the film's closing sequence.
An extension of production could also mean a weakening budget and that would result to trepidation among the production team, but New Regency's committed to "The Revenant" since the beginning has remained steadfast.
Di Caprio and Hardy are expected to be seen in this highly anticipated film on December 25. "The Crucible" actor founded the Leonardo Di Caprio Foundation which supports world conservation projects internationally. He promised to divest from fossil fuels as he said that climate change is taking a toll on the Earth's health and each of all its creatures. He has recently joined more than 400 institutions and 2,000 individuals with total assets of $2.6 trillion.
The film is distributed by 20th Century fox. The cast also includes Will Poulter, Lukas Haas, Brad Carter, Javier Botet, Brendan Fletcher, Kristoffer Joner, Kory Grim, Robert Moloney and Dave Burchill, among others.
