‘Avatar: The Last Airbender 2’ Updates: A complete recast for sequel happening? Audiences point out what went wrong in 1st film

'Avatar: The Last Airbender 2' is a planned follow-up to M. Night Shyamalan's first live-action adaptation of the popular Nickelodeon animated series released last 2010. Audiences pointed out what they thought went wrong with Shyamalan's first film and even welcomed the possibility of a complete recast should the sequel push through.

According to Den of Geek, Shyamalan immediately took to the television show's elements of spirituality, culture and martial arts when he first discovered it. It was unfortunate though that his revisionary take on the series was widely panned by critics and loyal followers alike. It turned out to be his most expensive yet openly despised film to date.

The 45-year old filmmaker has not always been criticized so poorly. He helmed several successful films delving in contemporary supernatural plots such as 'Signs', 'The Village', 'Lady in the Water', 'Unbreakable' and the 1999 blockbuster favorite 'The Sixth Sense'.

Another article by the Metro pointed out that although Shyamalan had his own share of bad reviews, he made a stunning comeback this year with a new thriller 'The Visit' as well as a critically acclaimed television series entitled 'Wayward Pines'. He admitted that he would probably revisit the 'The Last Airbender' series after completing another thriller project in between. No further details on the matter have been announced.

Several online media outlets such as Moviepilot carried on by saying that instead of creating a sequel, Shyamalan could do better with doing a total reboot of the first film. A move like this may allow the director to compensate for alleged terrible acting and pacing, poor character renderings (including the supposed "whitewashing" of cast members, bad costume and make-up choices as well as wrong pronunciation of names), deadpan humor, obvious CGI, and so on. However, it was reported that a complete recast may have a slim chance of happening should the sequel push through.

'Avatar: The Last Airbender' is planned fantasy-adventure film that will be based on the Nickelodeon animated television series of the same name. The first film featured Dev Patel as Prince Zuko, Noah Ringer as Aang, Nicola Peltz as Katara, Jackson Rathbone as Sokka, Shaun Taub as Uncle Iroh and Aasif Mandvi as Commander Zhao. It earned $319 million against a $150 million budget according to Box Office Mojo.
