Ewan McGregor and the rest of the original "Trainspotting" cast will be coming back to reprise their roles to the "Porno" sequel.
Scottish author Irvine Welsh confirmed the possibility of a sequel to the successful "Trainspotting" movie after 20 years. The talented director Danny Boyle who recently premiered his Michael Fassbender-starring Steve Jobs biopic at the Telluride Film Festival has revealed that if scheduling allows, his next movie will be the long-awaited sequel to the 1996 cult classic that made his name. The writer of the original "Trainspotting" film John Hodge will also pen the screenplay for the sequel.
Boyle confirmed that all the four main actors Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle want to come back and do the movie sequel. What only complicates the situation is getting the actors' entire schedule together as the two of them are doing American TV series. Johnny Lee Miller, who plays as 'Simon "Sick Boy"' is currently Sherlock Holmes in CBS's "Elementary." While Robert Carlyle in the role of "Begbie" has a recurring role in ABC's "Once Upon A Time."
The film is reportedly due for release in 2016 coinciding with "Trainspotting" 20th anniversary. One major factor that kept the movie from production despite Welsh's novel release in 2002 is the falling-out between Boyle and McGregor. Boyle failed to fulfill his promise and passed over the actor for Leonardo DiCaprio in The Beach. But they have moved on as McGregor stated: "We've all moved on and there is a lot of water under the bridge now." He said that he misses working with one of his favorite directors and credited the actor on the best films he made.
The sequel will revisit the hedonistic characters of Renton, Begbie, Sick Boy and Spud a decade after the druggy events of "Trainspotting." As the title of Welsh's novel suggests, this time around they're embarking into the seedy world of pornography.
