Samsung is still rolling out Android 5.1.1 Lollipop updates for their devices despite the fast-approaching launch day of the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow version before September ends.
Google is expected to launch Android M on September 29 at an event. However, Samsung is still churning out the Android 5.1.1 updates for some of its devices including the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0. The two devices are the latest to receive the Android Lollipop update.
Launched more than a year ago, the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 was installed with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box by Samsung. Now, the South Korean tech company is rolling out the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for both devices, according to Tech Times.
Verizon users will be prompted for the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OTA update. Sprint is also updating their Samsung Galaxy Note models with the update as well.
In October, Optus and Telstra will also roll out the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the Galaxy Note 4. No specific date was given by the Australian carriers.
US Cellular is also expected to roll out the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the Samsung Galaxy S5 mini. Ubergizmo reported that it would be the SM-G800R4 model that would receive the new update.
Samsung is also reportedly working on a major update for their flagship devices: the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+ and the Galaxy Note 5. There are speculations that the update would be the Android 5.1.1, but others are anticipating that it could be the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.
Since Google's launch event is just a few days from now, the best bet is that it's going to be an Android M update. The S6 Edge's firmware will change to G925FXXU3C016, according to Sam Mobile. This means that there will be significant user-facing improvements.
Even the Galaxy Note 4 is rumored to have the much-anticipated Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. However, there are still no confirmations coming from Samsung.
Samsung's updates are really late considering that Android 5.1.1 launched last year and Google is slated to release the Android 6.0 Marshmallow in a few days. Nevertheless, users of the said devices would still be glad to receive the new updates and improvements.
