‘The Crow’ reboot: Nicholas Hoult says no to casting; Film’s hiatus prolonged indefinitely amidst manpower shortage, studio bankruptcy

By

'The Crow' reboot has been struggling to take off in its production with several issues that have continuously plagued it. The movie has seen a flurry of actors for the main role, but ultimately, nobody has stayed, and Nicholas Hoult who is being eyed for it has said no to the film as well. Aside from the cast, 'The Crow' reboot has lost production people due to the studio's bankruptcy debacle. Soon, it may soon cost 'The Crow' reboot its director, Corin Hardy, too.

In an interview with Collider, Nicholas Hoult has said he doesn't think he'll be doing 'The Crow' reboot. Having done many characters that has a lot of make-up and/prosthetics on them, Hoult would like to shift into characters that has less of that, and Eric Draven is not one of them. However, he expressed that 'The Crow' reboot is going to make a great movie, whoever takes the role. That is, if the remake will ever get its new Eric Draven.

Originally offered to Tom Hiddleston who passed on it, the role went to Luke Evans, who quit after a few months, due to production problems and delays caused by the studio's bankruptcy. Replaced by Jack Huston, the production was looking slightly hopeful, until Huston also left, citing schedule conflict. Hoult was eyed to replace, but before anything could be done, he already passed on it. Now, director Corin Hardy's exit is rumored to be looming on the horizon.

As reported by The Wrap, Hardy may soon walk out of the production due to the ongoing debacle that is Relativity's bankruptcy proceedings. Producer Edward R. Pressman objected to the inclusion of 'The Crow' reboot among the saleable assets of Relativity Media. Pressman claims that the new owner for Relativity's film and TV assets may not have "adequate assurance of future performance."

'The Crow' remake needs "no less than $10 million to $12 million" for its finance and release on "no less than 1,000 screens" in North America, and the new owners may not have that immediate resources, causing to film to just stagnate. Pressman argues that he's "in danger of losing the services of the director, a key creative element."

The Global Dispatch reported the 'The Crow' creator and author James O'Barr seems to be the only one still optimistic about the film's progress. Despite Pressman himself saying that 'The Crow' remake is "imploding", O'Barr believes "it's going to happen." Should Pressman's win its motion, they could place 'The Crow' reboot in the hands of another studio.

'The Crow' reboot has already been stalled, with zero current cast, production people walking out of the film and studio rights battle. With these issues, the hiatus of the film will seemingly go on until the bankruptcy-studio rights issue is settled. Unless that happens, 'The Crow' remake will continue to lose time and and consequently, lose cast and crew. Hopefully, they will not have to hunt for a replacement director for Corin Hardy when the dust settles.
