'Trainspotting 2' director Danny Boyle will return shoot the sequel to his cult favorite from the 1990's. He confirmed that filming will begin by May and June of 2016. The scheduled release is reported to mark the 20th anniversary of the original film.
According to MovieWeb, Boyle is all set to reunite his old cast for filming by the first half of next year. Ewan McGregor will be back to reprise his role as the iconic Mark "Rent Boy" Renton. Fellow cast mates Ewan Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle and Kelly Mcdonald may also return.
It was reported that the follow-up may have been pushed back due to scheduling conflicts specifically with some of the cast members and their respective television shows. Miller is currently part of 'Elementary' while Carlysle stars in 'Once Upon A Time'.
The sequel will be based on Irvine Welsh's 2002 novel 'Porno' but will not be taking up the title, according to Den of Geek. Plot details remain elusive as of the present but should the screenplay take on the book's story, it would reunite the four friends in the pornographic industry.
Boyle said, "We've got a terrific script. We've got the four main actors all eager and willing to do it... the script would be good for two of them and not so great for the other two, and they'd feel obliged to come back, but they've all got good stuff, and it's a very interesting look at them again".
Another report from the Daily Mail suggested that the planned release date for 'Trainspotting 2' would coincide with the original film's 20th anniversary. Boyle's critically acclaimed black comedy made its cinematic debut in 1996 and instantly garnered universal praise from critics in Britain. It did, however, spark some controversy in other parts of the world including the United States and Australia.
'Trainspotting 2' is a planned follow-up to the '90s film of the same name. The first film earned $72 million in the box office, according to Box Office Mojo. It received several accolades including three British Academy Film Awards and an Academy Award nomination of Best Adapted Screenplay for John Hodge.
