Hayden Panettiere addressed how postpartum depression affected her after giving birth to her daughter, Kaya, in December. The "Nashville" star was also seen fostering her support for women who are suffering the same condition and claimed that they are not alone.
Before appearing on "Live! with Kelly and Michael" on Monday, Panettiere offered her assistance to help women who are battling with postpartum depression. She claimed that she too suffered it. "You're not alone or crazy, ladies!" she added. The 26-year-old actress also revealed how much weight she gained during her pregnancy in a report published by Us Weekly entitled, "25 Things You Don't Know About Me (I Rode a Zebra!)"
She admitted that she suffered mild postnatal depression on her first baby. She also dished that her weight before pregnancy was 110 pounds, which turned into 153 pounds after giving birth. According to Mayo Clinic, postpartum depression ideally starts on the first two to three days following delivery. The condition tends to make new moms have jumble emotions, including crying spells, anxiety, mood swings and finds it hard to sleep.
On Monday, Sept. 28, Panettiere appeared on "Live! with Kelly and Michael" and talked about her postpartum depression and her wish to have more kids. The "Heroes" alum, who's engaged to heavyweight boxing champ Wladimir Klitschko told the hosts that she wanted to have four children. During the interview, she also claimed how she suffered postpartum depression and that it could be healed, MIRROR reports.
"I can very much relate. It's something a lot of women experience. When [you're told] about postpartum depression you think it's 'I feel negative feelings towards my child, I want to injure or hurt my child' - I've never, ever had those feelings. Some women do. But you don't realize how broad of a spectrum you can really experience that on. It's something that needs to be talked about."
Panettiere's postpartum depression isn't easy, but she was able to win the battle with the help of her boyfriend and her BFF. After gaining 43 pounds during her pregnancy, she's now more focused on getting back into shape.
