Tom Cruise recently expressed his interest in creating an Edge of Tomorrow 2 which ignited speculations that a sequel to the 2014 flick could be underway soon. Emily Blunt also recently confirmed that she would love to do the sequel, given one specific condition.
Without revealing the plot, Cruise recently revealed that an Edge of Tomorrow sequel is possible to happen, which later earned various reactions from the film's followers. According to Digital Spy, the 2014 film earned a strong pool of followers, but only grossed a decent $369 million in the box office.
Although nothing has been officially sealed yet, Edge of Tomorrow screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie said during his interview with Uproxx that he likes the idea of the sequel, and it is a possibility. According to McQuarrie, Cruise pitched the idea of the sequel to him during their dinner while making Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.
"Tom said, 'I have an idea for the sequel to Edge', and I said, 'I don't want to f****ing hear it. I do not want to know!" And he pitched the idea to me and he finished pitching it, I was like, "Goddammit, why did you do that?'", McQuarrie revealed in the interview.
However, according to McQuarrie, the decision for the sequel will still depend on Warner Bros, the first film's director Doug Liman, and Emily Blunt who starred alongside Cruise in the lead role. Although Blunt has not officially confirmed to return yet, International Business Times reported that the actress recently revealed about how she would love to reprise her role and also admitted that to have heard Cruise's "seedling of an idea" for the sequel.
"I would for sure! But the idea would have to be good; it would just have to be a great idea. I don't want to dilute how great the first one is with a second one that's not as good. I'm terrified of sequels, to be honest with you.", Blunt said.
Warner Bros hasn't given the Edge of Tomorrow 2 a green light yet and Doug Liman has not confirmed to return either. However, more details are expected to be revealed in the coming months if and when the film's confirmation is announced.
