Robert Downey Jr.'s portrayal of the genius detective is coming back for 'Sherlock Holmes 3'. Joined by Jude Law who will reprise his role as Dr. John Watson, 'Sherlock Holmes 3' is underway, with the script being worked on. Law had an idea of time travel for the plot that he told Downey and director Guy Ritchie, which was ultimately turned down.
According to Movie News Guide, Law pitched the idea of time travel for 'Sherlock Holmes 3', surprising both Downey and Ritchie. What Law had in mind was and H.G. Wells and Sherlock Holmes combination. Downey even topped it by saying that they the time travel should be induced by a pill.
Law was amazed that his pitch leaked, however he admits that it might be too farfetched for the Victorian era set movie. 'Sherlock Holmes 3' is expected to stay in that era as opposed to Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock and the Elementary version, according to Christian Post.
Producer Lionel Wigrem has claimed that the script for 'Sherlock Holmes 3' is the best out of the 3 they made, prompting Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law to be enthusiastic about their return as the dynamic duo. Rachel McAdams, who played Irene Adler, is not yet confirmed to return. Fans are curious as to who will be the villain after Lord Blackwood and Professor Moriarty were defeated in the first and second films.
On the other hand, another Holmes movie was recently released, focusing on the detective's old age. The movie titled 'Mr. Holmes' featured Ian McKellen as the genius detective in the twilight of his life. The movie 'Mr. Holmes' recently settled a lawsuit on copyright infringements for taking stories still under exclusive rights, as reported by Variety.
While all these information has been on the news, there hasn't been an official announcement on its release date. Whether 'Sherlock Holmes 3' will explain how Sherlock escaped his apparent death in the second movie or not, moviegoers are anticipating this sequel's offering, as Ritchie, Downey and Law have not disappointed in their earlier outings.
