'Blade Runner 2' has been a highly anticipated film, not the very least because Harrison Ford is coming back, joined by Ryan Gosling. While still in pre-production, director Denis Villeneuve and cinematographer Roger Deakins both dish out some details on the sequel which might be called 'Androids Dream'.
Speaking with the Canadian Press, as reported by CBC, Villeneuve spoke confidently about the screenplay (by Hampton Fancher, Ridley Scott and Michael Green) of 'Blade Runner 2', describing it as "very powerful." A strong movie possible from that screenplay prompted him to agree to direct the sequel.
He added that it has been his dream "to do sci-fi" as early as 10-years old and it seems that 'Blade Runner 2' is the project that allow him to dive into that genre. Villaneuve will be working with brilliant cinematographer Roger Deakins for the third time with 'Blade Runner 2'.
Cinematographer Deakins told Variety that he is very excited about 'Blade Runner 2'. While the original wasn't huge success commercially or critically, Deakins commented that the great amount of interest on the sequel says something about Blade Runner's staying power as a movie.
Deakins revealed that the production will be tackling the storyboards "in a couple of weeks' time." Looking forward to the responsibility of 'Blade Runner 2', he also mentioned that the original Ridley Scott directed movie was brilliant, especially when it had that distinct look that made it stand out. However, while being in the same world after 30 years, 'Blade Runner 2' will also be looking different.
Meanwhile, The Independent reported that 'Blade Runner 2', currently starred by Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling, may be named 'Androids Dream'. While no official announcement has been made, the speculation has grown stronger due to 2 web domains, being registered by a company Warner Bros., has used long before. The domains bladerunnerandroidsdreammovie.com and androidsdreammovie.com, reinforce the idea that the movie will be name after the novel where the film is based: 'Do 'Androids Dream' of Electric Sheep?'
'Blade Runner 2' or tentatively 'Androids Dream' is in pre-production but no release date for the film has been announced. While Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling are confirmed, it is unknown who else will be joining them as cast or when the shooting begins. The production, including Villaneuve and Deakins, remains largely mum on details of the movie, for now.
