HTC Unveils M9+ Supreme Camera Edition, Butterfly 3 Smartphone: Specs, Features and Release Date

By

Not letting up to its competitors, HTC announced the One M9+ Supreme Camera edition with an upgraded snapper. The new Butterfly 3 smartphone was also unveiled. Will they be enough to increase the company's sales?

HTC unveiled the new phone model on Tuesday, along with the new Butterfly 3. The smartphone manufacturer is trying to keep up with the release of Apple's latest flagship phones: the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus in September.

What's new in the HTC One M9+ Supreme Camera edition is the better camera compared to the original smartphone model.

New Camera, Same Specs

Instead of the 20MP snapper, the newer M9 Plus has a 21MP main camera. Besides the added megapixel count, it also comes with optical image stabilization (OIS) and a slick laser auto focus feature.

Another difference is the camera lenses. The HTC M9+ Supreme Camera uses the mentioned laser autofocus (AF) system instead, according to Android Authority. Laser focusing is claimed to be faster than the traditional process.

Aside from the new camera, the new M9 Plus edition is pretty much the same. It still sports the 5.2-inch display with a QuadHD pixel resolution. Powering it is still the same MediaTek Helio X10 octa-core processor paired with an abundant 3GB RAM.

HTC Butterfly 3 Specs

Other than the upgraded M9+ Supreme Camera edition model, another model has been announced. It also has a 5.2-inch display with 1440 x 2560 pixels in resolution.

However, it has a different processor. Powering the device is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor. Two cores are clocked at 1.5 GHz and the other two are at 2GHz. It also has the Adreno 430 GPU for mobile gaming.

The HTC Butterfly 3 is also water and dust resistant. It has IPX5/ IPX7 and IP5X certification, according to NDTV. It also has 3GB of RAM.

Pricing and Availability

The HTC One M9+ Supreme Camera Edition release date is on October 15 in Taiwan with a price of around $630, according to Techno Buffalo. Meanwhile, the HTC Butterfly 3 release date is expected on October 20 in Taiwan for around $610.

Both are decent handsets made by HTC. The M9 Plus and the Butterfly 3 are claimed to have good specs and features, but they are seemed to be overshadowed by more popular flagship smartphones.
