Motorola has finally revealed its intentions of getting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, outlining plans which devices would get it first. A total of 11 Motorola handset devices are confirmed by the tech giant, including lines of Moto, DROID, and Nexus.
Motorola confirmed releasing the much-anticipated sweet treat of Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to almost all of its devices launched in 2014 and 2015. True to its identity as being on top of Android updates, Motorola has been keeping up with Google's string of software upgrades.
In Motorola's official blog, the company's vice president for software product management Bjorn Kilburn wrote 11 initial devices of Moto, DROID and Nexus to get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The list includes the following:
1. 2015 Moto X Pure Edition (3rd gen)
2. 2015 Moto X Style (3rd gen)
3. 2015 Moto X Play
4. 2015 Moto G (3rd gen)
5. 2014 Moto X Pure Edition in the US (2nd gen)
6. 2014 Moto X in Latin America, Europe and Asia2 (2nd gen)
7. 2014 Moto G and Moto G with 4G LTE2 (2nd gen)
8. DROID Turbo
9. 2014 Moto MAXX
10. 2014 Moto Turbo
11. Nexus 6
Since the list is still initial, Moto E handsets which are not included from the list are expected to be included in the coming months. Meanwhile, Kilburn noted that the phones included here are still subject for carrier support and approval. In China, upgrade remains in evaluation.
Motorola assures device owners that the update will avoid bloatware and skins. The primary aim of the company for the update is to "enable meaningful exchanges" between the owner and the phone. Motorola's native features to come in include simple voice controls and notifications that users can interact with even when phone is asleep.
Here's Android 6.0 Marshmallow's fresh new features and enhancements:
- Doze Mode. This new feature screens phone and puts into a deep sleep when unused to prolong battery life.
- Now on Tap. Google Now get better function. Press holding the home button will show up Google Now and exhibits information based on current status or activity.
- Android Pay. By just a simple tap, bring up Android Pay and make purchases without the need to launch another app.
- Direct share. Share photos, links, news, files, etc. with selected contacts with ease and quickness.
- Simpler volume controls. Control ringtone and media volume spontaneously.
