Channing Tatum's forthcoming Gambit movie is in danger of not meeting its 2016 release date as director Rupert Wyatt has officially bowed out of the film. Anna Paquin also recently confirmed her nonappearance via Twitter.
The film has recently lost a vital member when the 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' director cut his ties with the film citing scheduling conflict as the reason, according to IGN. Wyatt was signed on for the film earlier in June of this year.
However on the other hand, The Hollywood Reporter said that a source recently confirmed that the split between Wyatt and 20th Century Fox really began when the studio started having doubts about Wyatt's commitment to moving the project on to its targeted 2016 release date. "Ambivalence is not a good way to go into an expensive movie", the source reportedly revealed.
No director has been replaced for the film and the clock is ticking for the studio as they currently have a year left before the release date. As of writing, Channing Tatum is the only actor officially on board as he is set to play the titular role. Although, Lea Seydoux is also rumored to play as Gambit's love interest, Bella Donna Boudreaux.
Also as reported by Entertainment Weekly, Anna Paquin who played the role of Rogue in the previous instalments of the X-Men franchise revealed recently that she will not appear in the film. Paquin was asked if she will appear in the film, which she concisely answered with the word "no".
In the comics, Rogue and Gambit were romantically involved although in the film universe, Rogue has a relationship with Iceman while if Seydoux confirms to jump on board, Bella Donna could be paired up with Gambit.
Gambit is currently slated for an October 07, 2016 release date. It is set to be produced by Tatum, Reid Carolin, Simon Kinberg, and Lauren Shuler Donner.
