Although "Pacific Rim 2" was previously reported that the production has been halted, Universal Pictures assured fans that the sequel will be happening. And when it does, director Guillermo del Toro wants Maisie Williams of "Game of Thrones" to be part of it.
"Pacific Rim 2" was initially scheduled for an August 4, 2017 release date, but Universal has pulled the film from the calendar. However, according to Bustle, both Legendary and Universal pictures are said to be committed to making the sequel and that the delay was done to provide the creative team enough time to continue in their efforts to exceed the amazing experience of the first film.
Screen Crush, on the other hand, reported that "Pacific Rim 2" might have been delayed due to the latest developments with Legendary's "Kong: Skull Island" and "Godzilla". As of this writing, the "Pacific Rim" franchise remains at Universal for distribution; however, it's still unclear to exactly how or why this is causing a delay for del Toro.
As for the sci-fi monster movie director, del Toro aims to have "Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark in "Game of Thrones", to be part of "Pacific Rim 2." Coming Soon reported that the director revealed via Twitter his intent to have Williams in the sequel. The two had lunch together and del Toro finds Williams "remarkable", saying if the second installment happens, "that girl is getting a Jaeger."
Williams got a big time breakthrough thanks to her role in HBO's "Game of Thrones, and has since become a fan favorite. He is reported to star in the upcoming "Last of Us" movie, which is based on a popular video game.
Whether "Pacific Rim 2" is to happen or not, it is still up to Universal Picture to release the trigger. Well, for now, having Maisie Williams be part of Guillermo del Toro's imagination is a good consolation for the fans.
