By

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is reported anew that the official over-the-air update of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to the device is coming up following the release of Canadian mobile carriers Bell and Telus of the final Lollipop software version to the device. As expected, the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will come with additional features and enhancements of existing apps.

Major mobile carriers in the US like Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T and US Cellular are expected to follow the mobile carriers in Canada as they have just rolled out the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update to Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Sprint is the only carrier in the US to update its Galaxy Note 4 units with Android Lollipop's final software update.

Galaxy Note 4 users here have been lodging complaints on community forums on tech sites and carriers' support pages regarding the tardy updates of the Android Lollipop software. According to Samsung, it has already forwarded upgrade instructions to partner carriers. Delay must come from them due to evaluation and other reasons.

Neither Verizon nor any other carrier has spoken regarding this issue. However, there are new reports suggesting that Galaxy Note 4 from these carriers might be getting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. This has neither been confirmed by the carriers.

Other Samsung smartphones and tablets have already received the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop which icludes the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Tab 4 8.0, Galaxy Grand Prime, Galaxy Core Prime, Galaxy Mega 2, and Galaxy J1.

The update comes with new features and improvements in Material Design user interface, fingerprint scanner and USB Type-C support, device sharing, and device sync. The update of the Canadian carriers weighed 641.23 MB so future Android 5.1.1 update for the American carriers should also be just around this figure.

Android 5.1.1 Lollipop shall come automatically over-the-air when device is connected to Wi-Fi. To manually check device, head over to Settings > About device > Software update > Check for updates.

Meanwhile, a custom ROM based on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop software version is also available. The ROM was created by Emotroid which brings in native features with the update.
