Filming for Bourne 5 is currently underway and Matt Damon recently hinted that Jason Bourne may have retrieved his memories in the film. Damon also revealed why playing as Bourne is close to his heart while clarifying speculations about a possible Bourne 6.
While promoting his recent film, "The Martian", Damon revealed during a press junket that the upcoming Bourne installment will see the titular character retrieving some of his memories. According to Ecumenical News, Bourne or David Webb will be able to remember but a couple of things will still be left in the unknown which he will seek answers to.
After living off the grid for 12 years, Damon revealed that the movie will show where he has been and what he has been doing at the time. He also said that setting is in a post-Snowden world, although, how it will be connected to the plot is yet to be revealed.
Damon and Greengrass are both back in the franchise, which Damon said to be close to his heart. While talking to The Telegraph, the actor said that playing the character saved his life and career. "It's incalculable how much these movies have helped my career", Damon said. "Suddenly it put me on a short list of people who could get movies made and so directors called me and that's the best part of it."
Also, he revealed that he trained a lot more than ever for the film since director Paul Greengrass wanted him to be physically fit and lean for the role. He expressed his excitement in reprising his role and added that he hopes it becomes as good as the others or even stand out given the time off they had from the franchise.
With the Bourne 5 in the works, claims have surfaced that it could be a signal for a potential Bourne 6. However, as reported by Cinemablend, Damon clarified that the sixth film in the franchise is currently not guaranteed yet as the film since he intends to focus on the fifth film first.
"I always just did one at a time. Even on the first one, they suggested me signing up for three, [but] I didn't know if I was going to like making action movies. I didn't ever want to be in a situation where I was roped to something and I couldn't get away", Damon said.
Aside from Damon, the currently untitled Bourne 5 film will also see the return of Julia Stiles as Nicku Parsons, while Tommy Lee Jones and Alicia Vikander were also confirmed to be in the cast in currently undisclosed roles. Vincent Cassell is also on board as the newest villain in the franchise. He is set to play as a high-level spy who will be chasing Bourne. Bourne 5 release date is set on July 29, 2016.
