Amidst massive movies of superheroes being released in the Marvel Universe, "Doctor Strange" is one of the few which will focus on the origins.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige talks about how the studio is sometimes being drilled on their reluctance to origins. Feige explained that origin stories are boring most specifically origin stories that have been seen before and memorable. However, "Doctor Strange" has "one of the best, most classic, most unique origin stories," and Marvel will be making the most out of that. How to use that unique and exceptional material is what they are working on. Hence, Marvel is giving a twist on the original comic story.
In the comics, Dr. Stephen Vincent Strange is an egotistical yet distinguished neurosurgeon. His life changes in a fateful car accident, where he loses the use of his hands. He sets in search of a cure in Tibet, where he discovers The Ancient One, an extremely powerful sorcerer who lures Dr. Strange in the mystic arts.
The leading role Dr. Stephen Vincent Strange is taken by "Sherlock" star Benedict Cumberbatch. She is joined by Tilda Swinton who will play the character of The Ancient One. Known for her talent of portraying roles indistinctly, Swinton said that she does not know yet whether she will play The Ancient One as a man or a woman.
Recently, Rachel McAdams is reportedly jumping on board but her role is still being kept under wraps. McAdams was interviewed during the Toronto Film Festival and she hinted that her role is going to be "psychedelic."
Feige has also uncovered that McAdams role is big and significant. He stated: "(She) represents a certain point of view of the worlds that we experience in the movie..." Speculations say that McAdams will be playing the character opposite to Cumberbatch, either his great love Clea or Victoria Bentley. She could also be mystic student and author Morgana Blessing or the mystical entity "The Vishanti."
Slated for a November 4, 2016 release, Feige said that "Doctor Strange" will introduce the concepts of magic and mysticism as they exist in the MCU. He also states that it's a "fitting way to get started" on the road to the cosmic battles that will lead to "Avengers: Infinity War."
