"Suicide Squad", which will be released in 2016, has already wrapped up production. The plot will hugely revolve around Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn character aka Dr Harleen Quinzel.
It is believed that Harley Quinn's origin story will play a crucial role in the film. The leaked Comic-Con trailer shows the character of Dr. Harleen Quinzel before she became Harley Quin. Her streaks of blonde hair and glasses strapped up on the bed with those electrotherapy tools around her. She looks terrified as The Joker stands over her and says: "I'm not gonna kill ya, I'm just gonna hurt ya. Really really badly."
The Mad Love origin in the comic book world is the most widely known of her origins: she meets the Joker when interning at Arkham Asylum, falls in love with him and into insanity, trading in her lab coat for a clown costume and becoming his accomplice. But the trailer shows more like Harley Quinn as one of Joker's victims and not someone who falls in love with him.
The New 52 inspired Harley Quinn in the upcoming "Suicide Squad" tossed her classic jester costume and has now thrown on a punk, rough look. The character's co-creator Paul Dini, a writer and producer on "Batman: The Animated Series," commented that while many fans love the old costume, the rough and street look fits better and works fine in the "Suicide Squad" movie.
Dini even shared that he thinks that Margot Robbie is a wonderful actress. He even complimented Robbie on her great looks and talents. He added that he is looking forward and excited to see her portrayal of Harley Quinn in the big screen. He reassured the fans that the new Harley's Suicide Squad look was also approved by artist Bruce Timm, Dini's partner in creating Harley Quinn. Timm admitted earlier that while he was worried at first that she would look out of the ordinary, he thought she looked "pretty cute."
The Joker played by Jared Leto in the "Suicide Squad" is also visually far different from the comic book character. Leto's Joker is sporting tattoos and adorned teeth. Giving highlight to his white skin are ruby lips and green hair. Dini noted on this and compared the duo to Sex Pistols member Sid Vicious and his girlfriend Nancy Spungen.
Fans will meet Harley and Joker up close when "Suicide Squad" hits the theaters on August 5, 2016.
