CBS is currently in the works of creating a "Nancy Drew" TV series. From Grey’s Anatomy writers and executive producers Tony Phelan and Joan Rater, the potential new drama will be based on the iconic character from the mystery book series which gained popularity from the 1930s until the early 2000s. Dan Jinks and Nick Nantell will also co-produce.

According to Deadline, the project has been pitched as a contemporary take on the Nancy Drew character. Viewers will meet Drew in her 30s, who currently works as a detective for the NYPD. As she navigates the complexities of life in the modern era, her character motivations will be investigating and solving crimes while using her canny observational skills.

The iconic character has been developed for TV, films and movies over the years. The Hollywood Reporter shared a few details about its history in a report. “Nancy Drew first appeared in books in 1930 and was originally created by Edward Stratemeyer. The beloved books have been ghostwritten by a series of authors and published under the pseudonym Carolyn Keene,” the publication wrote.

The latest adaptation of the iconic teenage detective was the 2007 titular film starring "Scream Queens" star, Emma Roberts. The movie was directed by Andrew Fleming.

Should the show gets a series commitment with CBS, "Nancy Drew" will join a slew of old shows and films that are currently being rebooted for television. Entertainment Weekly has reported that FOX and CBS are also in the works of retooling a their new versions of Lethal Weapon and MacGyver, respectively.

The show is being pitched as a contemporary take on the Nancy Drew character. No word yet on which actress will play the titular role. Details about beginning of production and geographical setting are yet to be determined.
