With the release of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, many carriers and smartphone manufacturers have been very busy upgrading their handsets as a step to obtain the latest operating system made by Google. Verizon's Galaxy Core Prime has recently jumped to Android Lollipop 5.1.1 and is expected to receive the newest OS soon.
Softpedia said on its article that a lot of Galaxy Core Prime units have already been upgraded to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop and higher versions; but then, some carriers are still testing the update in their own labs.
Moreover, the US-based carrier Verizon Wireless is not one of them since the Big Red has just proclaimed the availability of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for Galaxy Core Prime. Verizon Wireless is one of the few carriers that offered an update directly to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, which includes a few extra features and developments.
This information has been confirmed by Samsung's official website, but Verizon customers who own the Galaxy Core Prime can check for the update since the carrier is now rolling it out over-the-air.
Ubergizmo further added that the software version that is being rolled out for Verizon Galaxy Core Prime was G360VVRU3BOH3.This includes everything that users come to expect from this particular version of Android.
In addition Tech Times cited the enhancements that Android 5.1.1 Lollipop brings to Core Prime users. The major development is a bug fix for the Stagefright exploit, which allows hackers to control Android-powered devices. It was noted that previously, attackers were enable to access one's Android phone simply by sending the user an MMS.
The Lollipop 5.1.1 update also brings a new Material Design, modifications to the lockscreen with shortcuts for the Camera and Phone. This negates the need to unlock the device and some security patches.
Users can check if they have received the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop software update for the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime through Settings> About device> Software update> Check for updates.
As the Android 5.1.1 update became available to Samsung Galaxy Core Prime, users of this handset may receieve Android Marshmallow next. Meanwhile, they still have to wait as the upgrade is done through over-the-air (OTA).
