The coming together of DC's antiheroes in Suicide Squad have been turning heads since the trailer's release in the San Diego Comic Con. Moreover, more attention have been drawn to Jared Leto as he pours everything into playing as the Joker in the film.
"I'm not gonna kill you... I'm just gonna hurt you, really, really, bad" was Leto's line in the trailer of the much-anticipated Suicide Squad, and while it was effective in getting everybody curious about the film, Will Smith who plays Deadshot revealed that Leto's commitment to the character does not end even after the director says "Cut!" during filming.
As reported by /film, Smith revealed that he hasn't met Leto even after filming with him for months. "I've never actually met Jared Leto. We worked together for 6 months and we've never exchanged a word outside of 'Action!' and 'Cut!' I literally have not met him yet. So, the first time I see him will be 'Hey, Jared. What's up?' He was all in on the Joker", Smith said.
Leto has also been notable to exert much effort to be effective in every character he portrays on screen, even gaining 67 pounds for 'Chapter 27', and shedding 40 pounds for 'Dallas Buyers Club'. According to The Independent, Smith is not the only one to notice Leto's method acting as Margot Robbie who plays Harley Quinn also previously revealed that she's 'petrified' of Leto.
Moreover, when deciding on how to approach the character of Joker, comic book writer Grant Morrison revealed that Leto asked him for an advice. "He [Leto] called me to talk about his approach to the character and I steered him in a few directions", Morrison said as reported by Comic Book Resources. "I'm keen to see if anything other than slicked back hair and the Marilyn Manson vibe made it into his performance", he added.
The character of Joker is considered to be one of the most popular among DC villains, and is popularly known as Batman's nemesis. Joker was previously played by Jack Nicholson in Tim Burton's Batman film, and Heath Ledger in Chris Nolan's The Dark Knight.
Leto will be the next to play the twisted character in Suicide Squad which also stars Cara Delevingne as the Enchantress, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Adewale Akkinuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Adam Beach as Slipknot, and Jay Hernandez as El Diablo. It is directed by David Ayer, and slated to hit theaters on August 5, 2016.
