The war between The Machine and Samaritan left a lot of casualties and saw new alliances formed in the Season 4 finale of "Person of Interest". In its upcoming Season 5, Michael Emerson, who plays Harold Finch, hints that there could be more deaths as Samaritan is very dangerous and could cause the end for humanity. Unfortunately, Season 5 could also be the final one for the series.
Ecumenical News reports that Finch becomes more obsessed with Samaritan more than ever. "In a way, it's more dangerous than we can even portray on television, because the idea of what Samaritan is and how plausible it is, is hair-raising," Emerson said in an interview. "I try to hold onto that idea that what they're up against is the end of humankind potentially. Those are high stakes."
The Season 5 press release reveals that Finch's Machine is essentially dead. His team is once again in hiding. While Sameen Shaw is revealed to have survived the war, she remains missing. With Samaritan's invisible grip tightening everywhere, will Finch be able to rebuild and resurrect The Machine? Will it be the same Machine if it is able to make a comeback online?
Incidentally, CBS only ordered 13 episodes for "Person of Interest" Season 5. This gave rise to the speculation that the network is just giving the series a chance to wrap things up before canceling it definitely.
Yibada reports that Kaily Russel of Sonomo, CA recently started an online petition to appeal to the network producers to give the show another chance. Russel perceived that fans were "robbed of a decent amount of episodes," adding that the show deserves more than 13 episodes for Season 5. She also appealed to Netflix to consider picking up the series if CBS decided to eventually pull the plug.
EP Greg Plageman explained in an interview that they treated each season finale episode as possible series finale. He said that they wanted to give fans a satisfying ending, which is why they never end it with a cliffhanger. For Season 5 however, Plageman admitted that they thought of leaving the finale on an ambiguous note in case another network, or even CBS, picked it up for another season.
More details about Season 5 will be revealed on Sunday, October 11 at the New York Comic Con reports Mstarz. There will be a panel followed by a Q&A with its stars Emerson, Sarah Shahi, Kevin Chapman and Amy Acker.
