The 'Charlie's Angels' reboot may be directed and produced by Elizabeth Banks. She is reportedly in talks with Sony. Jennifer Lawrence is chosen as one of the fan casting favorites despite no official news regarding which actresses will play the titular angels.

According to Deadline, Sony is planning a reboot of the classic television series that first aired in 1976. Actress-turned-filmmaker Elizabeth Banks is said to be in talks with the studio to helm the planned film as well as produce it under her own company Brownstone Productions. It has been more than a decade since the three titular women made their way to the silver screen.

The crime-drama television series ran from September 22, 1976 through June 24, 1981 and comprised of five seasons with a total of 110 episodes. The first actresses to ever helm the 'Charlie's Angels' titles were Jaclyn Smith, Farrah Fawcett-Majors and Kate Jackson. The series was then adapted into an action-comedy feature film directed by Joseph McGinty "McG" Nichol and starred Lucy Liu, Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore.

The main premise of the original series revolves around three marginalized female police officers recruited to work for a reclusive millionaire, Charlie. The three become private investigators and are assisted by Charlie's right-hand man, Bosley.

Banks is no stranger to helming a full feature film. According to Variety, she had her directorial debut in the sequel to the musical comedy film 'Pitch Perfect' released on May 2015. Banks earned praise for her work on 'Pitch Perfect 2' which managed to gather $258 million in the box office.

The 41-year old Hollywood beauty is also set to direct 'Pitch Perfect 3' as well as the planned 'Red Queen' at Universal. Banks is best known for her acting work on popular films such as 'The Hunger Games', 'Magic Mike XXL', 'What To Expect When You're Expecting', 'People Like Us', and 'Definitely, Maybe'. She is also set to produce the upcoming 'Charlie's Angels' remake with her husband and producing partner Max Handelman.

Ever since news of the reboot surfaced, fan choices for headliners have also emerged. Entertainment Weekly rounded up some of their potential picks with 'Orange Is The New Black' star Ruby Rose topping the list with the most fan votes, followed by 'Hunger Games' star Jennifer Lawrence and singer-actress Zendaya in third place. No official announcements have been made regarding casting.

'Charlie's Angels' is a planned reboot of the widely popular American television series from the '70s. Despite mixed reviews from critics during that time, the show gained astounding popularity with audiences. The characters themselves became one of industry's classic pop culture icons.
