'Kong: Skull Island' actor Tom Hiddleston expressed his excitement over director Jordan Vogt-Roberts take on the classic tale of the legendary giant ape. He revealed his role in the upcoming film as a heroic adventurer. American actor John Goodman is one of the latest talents to join the growing cast.
According to Cinema Blend, Hiddleston will be playing the lead protagonist in the action-adventure sequel helmed by Vogt-Roberts. The English actor gained immense popularity in his role as the treacherous Loki in Marvel's 'Thor' and went on to star in other films such as 'Only Lovers Left Alive', 'Crimson Peak,' and 'Exhibition'. He recently revealed that his newest character will be that of a former soldier-turned-heroic adventurer but he didn't quite mention the name yet.
In another article by Games Radar, Hiddleston expressed his admiration for Vogt-Robert's version saying that it was a unique reimagining of the mythology surrounding King Kong. The film is intended to be the prequel to director Peter Jackson's 2005 remake.
He said, "It absolutely tips its hat to all King Kong movies that have gone before, with respect and deference, but it's a new period, a new set of characters... Jordan Vogt-Roberts' vision was breathtaking. He came in to Legendary and said, 'What if you did this?' and we were blown away."
The upcoming film's story revolved around a team of explorers journeying to the mythical island of King Kong's origins. Skull island was first introduced in the original 1933 film and later appeared in sequels, subsequent remakes and other media. It is said to be the home of King Kong as well as other fantastical prehistoric creatures and species thought to be extinct from the modern world.
John Goodman is one of the latest actors to join the growing cast of 'Kong: Skull Island'. According to a report by Deadline, he will be playing a character named Randa. Randa is a government official who leads the team of explorers on their expedition to Skull Island. The 63-year old actor is known for his previous work on films such as 'Flight', 'Argo', 'The Artist', and the 1998 cult classic 'The Big Lebowski'.
'Kong: Skull Island' is the sequel to the 'King Kong' series reboot first launched in 2005. Its predecessor was written, directed and produced by Peter Jackson. The first monster adventure reboot earned positive reviews from critics and gained $550 million in combined global sales against a $207 budget, according to Box Office Mojo.
