The second week of "Agents of SHIELD" season 3 uncorked the mystery of how Agent Simmons was able to get back to earth after being consumed by the Kree Monolith. Following the conclusion of this arc, the ABC series will move forward by igniting a brewing war for Team Coulson against his new rival.
Last Tuesday’s episode of "Agents of SHIELD" gave fans a huge sigh of relief. Agent Simmons, through the help of Fitz and co., was able to finally go home to Earth after being stuck in another planet. However, her reunion with the team presented that something has changed with Simmons – and not in a good way.
“When a nightmare startles Simmons awake, she shoots up in bed, poised with a homemade stake in her hands ready to strike. Once she realizes she's safely back at S.H.I.E.L.D., Simmons curls up next to a sleeping Fitz, as though he's the only thing tethering her to this world,” TV Guide cited in a recap. Clearly, the signs certainly point out that the troubled scientist was experiencing the aftereffect of a traumatic event.
To this end, her portrayer Elizabeth Henstridge has confirmed that indeed, Simmons is going through the early stages of PTSD. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly the actress said, “She has PTSD. She’s been through something, which, for her especially, was just unthinkable.”
For Fitz-Simmons’ shippers, lookout for some sweet moments between the reunited duo as the series progresses. Henstridge allowed that the PTSD will make her closer to Fitz. “I think she’ll be leaning on him even more. The first word she says when she comes back is Fitz. All she wants to do is be close to him.”
In other SHIELD news, the next episode will touch upon the brewing rivalry between Agent Coulson and Rosalind Price. According to the episode description released by The Futon Critic, “Daisy, Mack and Coulson race to protect Lincoln as Rosalind's team hunts down the Inhuman in their quest for powered people”.
"Agents of SHIELD" revealed the fate of Agent Simmons on its second week. However, the trauma she faced on the other planet presented a shift in her behavior. Moving forward, the viewers will find Coulson butting heads with Rosalind as they fight over an Inhuman.
