Scott's photo was captioned with "It's official! #NaomiScott will play the #PinkRanger in the @PowerRangersMovie! Coming in 2017..."
According to Deadline, Amy Jo Johnson was originally the pink ranger from 1993 - 1996. "Power Rangers" reboot was supposed to be out for summer 2016 but it was moved to January 2017.
As it was reported lately, Lionsgate has started shortlisting the talents for a role in the reboot franchise. Den of Geek has listed Daniel Zovatto (It Follows), Ross Butler (Chasing Life), and Brian 'Sene' Marc for the role of Zack (Black Ranger).
Jason, the red ranger, is being contended by Mitchell Hope (The Descendants), Austin Butler (Aliens in the Attic) and Kj Apa (Shortland Street) for the role of Zack (Black Ranger). And as the pink ranger (Kimberley) Naomi Scott was listed against Stephanie Scott.
Originally, "Power Rangers" was first aired in 1993 as Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The series was based on the Japanese TV Show "Super Sentai". The story follows the transformation of the major characters into their superheroic embodiment.
Under the direction of Dean Israelite (Department of Nothing), Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz are assigned as the screenwriters alongside Haim Saban, Brian Casentini and Allison Shearmur as the producers.
According to the character description, Kimberley is a 17-year-old who is popular and prickly. She wants to be on her own and do her own thing. Despite her complicated attitude, she is covered with deep secrets and vulnerability.
While the movie is still years away, Scott will be seen in The Martian as Ryoko. Meanwhile, the movie will start filming in Vancouver early next year.
