‘Ant-Man 2’ Officially Titled 'Ant-Man and the Wasp’ Coming July 2018, Bumps Off ‘Black Panther’ for Earlier Release Date

'Ant-Man 2' has been announced as 'Ant-Man and the Wasp'. It is the sequel to Peyton Reed's 2015 release based on the popular Marvel characters of the same name. It is scheduled for release on July 2018 and bumped off 'Black Panther' for an earlier date. Marvel also revealed the newest 2020 releases.

According to Cinema Blend, a surprising announcement was made at the New York Comic Con regarding the return of 'Ant-Man' on the big-screen. The sequel will bring together Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lily as Scott Lang a.k.a. Ant-Man and Hope van Dyne respectively. The news came as an unexpected surprise for fans since there was no scheduled follow-up on Marvel's Phase Three timeline.

Its predecessor was released last July 17, 2015 and was considered a modest success with regards to Marvel's standards. It was directed by popular comedy director Peyton Tucker Reed who is best known for his previous films such as 'Yes Man', 'The Break-Up', 'Down With Love' and 'Bring It On'. It remains unknown whether Reed will return to helm the second adaptation of Rudd's diminutive superhero.

Another article by Screen Rant stated that the addition of 'Ant-Man and the Wasp' to the Phase Three timeline has caused some scrambling of previously scheduled films. The new film was slated for release on theaters on July 6, 2018 - a slot already taken by 'Black Panther'. Fortunately for fans of T'Challa, the new development bumped 'Black Panther' to an earlier release date for February 16, 2018.

The theatrical release for 'Captain Marvel', however, has been moved all the way to March 8, 2019 from the originally planned November 2, 2018 release. On an interesting note, Marvel also announced the release dates for three unnamed films speculated to be part of Phase Four. According to ScreenCrush, May 1, 2020, July 10, 2020, and November 6, 2020 have been booked.

'Ant-Man 2', otherwise known as 'Ant-Man and the Wasp' is a planned superhero film based on the characters of the same name from Marvel comic books. It is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase Three and is considered the eighth installment in the current lineup of MCU's films.
